Installation

1Can I just load the newest CD I've received?
YES.  Since each update contains the full data for that manufacturer, there's no need to load previous updates that may have been missed before loading the most recent one.
2Do I need to install the OEM data disk each time I receive it?
YES. We recommend that you install the OEM data disk as soon as you receive it to ensure that you have access to ALL of the latest parts and pricing information for the OEM.
3After I have installed PartSmart, can I remove PartSmart 6?
NO. PartSmart and PartSmart 6 share components that are required to run PartSmart. You can, however, click and drag the PartSmart 6 icon to the recycle bin. If you do uninstall PartSmart 6, you will need to reinstall it to restore the shared components.
4I need to install a couple of PartSmart updates. Do I need to shut down PartSmart on ALL of the machines that have PartSmart on them?
Yes, please close PartSmart on all computers before running any update. This will greatly reduce the possibility of a corrupted installation.
5Do I need to install the PartSmart Application Disk on each client machine?

If PartSmart was not previously installed on that client, YES, you will need to go to each client and run setup to allow that PC to connect to your server's PartSmart installation. This is done by browsing through your network to the server where PartSmart is installed. In the PS8 folder, you will find a ClientSetup folder. Double click on setup.exe contained in that folder.

Once your clients are set up to read PartSmart from your server, you do not need to run any application updates at the client PCs.

6I have a server that is sharing PartSmart to my clients. When I install a new version of PartSmart to it, and it asks me what type of install I want to run, what do I choose?
If the server has a previous version of PartSmart already installed on it and you are simply updating the base program to the latest version, you only run the TYPICAL install.  This will update the existing install to the latest program version without changing any current path settings.
7How do I set up a client with the latest version of PartSmart?

With the latest version of PartSmart, a folder called ClientSetup has been created in the PS8 directory of the Partsmart install location.  That folder contains a SETUP.EXE that can be run through the network at the client PC, rather than using a CD at each client.

The method with which you browse to that directory will dictate how the client install will be run.  If you use a mapped network drive to read your server, the client install will set your icon shortcut path to that mapped drive location.  If you use a UNC path directly through My Network Places to find the server's installation, the client install will set your icon shortcut path to the UNC path.
